Why pregnant women get the pupps rash

To date, there is no scientific proof to explain why pregnant women get the pupps rash. It has been suggested that the pupps rash may be the result of pregnant women gaining weight and getting stretch marks or the result of a hormonal reaction between the pregnant mother and her unborn baby boy.

Topical solutions to use to help relieve the symptoms of pupps

Any anti-itch topical solutions can be used to provide temporary relief of the pupps rash. The PUPPP Cleanse provides a list of the topical solutions that work well at easing the discomfort caused by the pupps rash.

Introduction

Hello! I am Tanzania Crew, the author of this book and a PUPPP survivor. Since you are reading this book, I assume you are suffering from the pupps rash or at least know someone who is. At any rate, this is a great start to relieving yourself of one of the most uncomfortable rashes that exist. I hope that sharing my journey with you will provide you the same relief I stumbled upon much sooner than I did.

My journey with the pupps rash began during the pregnancy of my third child. Yes, it was a boy. I remember noticing small fine bumps on my belly that itched. The itch was minimal as the pupps rash was just beginning to form. I really did not pay much attention to it because I figured putting a little cortisone on the rash would stop the itch and clear things up. I WAS WRONG!

During my 8th month visit to the doctor’s office, I showed my OB/GYN the rash and was told, “it is a pregnancy rash that pregnant women get and it normally goes away after giving birth.”

What is the pupps rash?

PUPPP, Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy, is a hives like rash that causes major discomfort for pregnant women during and after pregnancy. The pupps rash is said to occur during the third trimester of most pregnancies. In some cases the pupps rash will go away after the mother gives birth. In other cases, the mother can have pupps months after giving birth.

The pupps rash generally starts on the abdomen and can cover the entire body in some cases. The only parts of the body that are not plagued by the pupps rash are the face, the palm of the hands, and the sole of the feet. Some women are lucky enough to only have the pupps rash cover their abdomen. The majority of the cases I have read about were extreme and completely covered everything but the face, hands, and feet.

Fortunately, pupps is harmless to the mother and the baby. While it may be harmless, it can wreak havoc on a mother with a newborn who is already not getting much sleep. The irritation alone is enough to make you lose your mind. Those who have survived it deserve a badge of honor.

Why pregnant women get pupps rash?

To date, there is no scientific proof to explain why pregnant women get this angry pregnancy rash. It has been said that it is closely related to women gaining a lot of weight during pregnancy which causes stretch marks. The pupps rash is said to occur because of the stretch marks. It has also been said that pregnant women giving birth to little boys comprise 70% of the pregnant women with the pupps rash. This has lead researchers to believe that the male hormones of the unborn fetus have something to do with causing the pupps rash.

I have three kids. The first two times I was pregnant I gave birth to girls. It was only during my third pregnancy while pregnant with my son that I experienced pupps. In addition, my OB/GYN mentioned that there was some correlation between the male hormones of the fetus and the mother’s hormones that triggers the PUPPP. I am starting to believe that this may be the reason that pregnant women get the nasty pupps rash.

    What is the pupps rash?

The pupps rash (aka PUPPP or pregnancy rash) is a common skin condition known as polymorphic eruption that occurs among pregnant women. The symptoms of the pupps rash include extreme itching, warp-like bumps/lesions (papules) that can cover the entire body, extreme irritation, and redness. These symptoms appear to be consistent among those who have experienced the pupps rash.

The pupps rash is said to occur during the first pregnancies of most pregnant woman. It is also said that the rash occurs during the third trimester of most pregnancies. In some cases the pupps rash will go away after the mother gives birth. In other cases, the mother can have the pupps rash months after giving birth, even up to 4-5 months after giving birth. If the pupps rash lingers after giving birth, it is said to be the related to lingering placental products.

The pupps rash generally starts on the abdomen and can cover the entire body in some cases. The only parts of the body that are not plagued by the pupps rash are the face, the palm of the hands, and the sole of the feet. Some women are lucky enough to only have the rash cover their abdomen. The majorities of the cases I have read about were extreme and completely covered everything but the face, hands, and feet.

Pregnant women who get the pupps rash are not likely to have it occur more than once. So, future pregnancies should not be plagued by the pupps rash. If it does occur during a future pregnancy, it should be much milder than the initial experience with the pupps rash.

Fortunately, the pupps rash is harmless to the mother and the baby; however, there have been reports of babies getting the pupps rash as well. In those cases, the pupps rash is extremely mild and normally goes away quickly. It is rare for babies to get the pupps rash.

While the pupps rash may be harmless, it should be treated immediately to avoid prolonged discomfort and irritation. The intense irritation caused by the pupps rash can wreak havoc on a mother who is already not getting much sleep as a result of tending to a newborn baby and as the result of the irritation caused by the pupps rash. Some mothers have reported that the irritation alone is enough to make you lose your mind. Some have reported coming very close to losing their minds. Losing your mind or coming close to it, should make the pupps rash very harmful. Those who have survived it deserve a badge of honor.  read more

The Truth About the Pupps Rash

The truth about the pupps rash is that it is very irritating and very uncomfortable. The intense irritation caused by PUPPP can affect women during pregnancy and during postpartum. The symptoms are the same in most cases and no one who has experienced the pupps rash has ever reported a pleasant experience with it.

To date, there is no scientific proof to explain why women get the pupps rash. It has been said that women get the pupps rash as a result of getting stretch marks during pregnancy. The pupps rash supposedly only occurs around the stretch marks of pregnant women who gain a great amount of weight during pregnancy. It normally begins around the third trimester, which is when the abdomen has stretched the most. It is rare for the pupps rash to begin after the mother has given birth.

It has also been stated that the pupps rash is the result of male DNA acting as a skin irritant and causing the pupps rash. This is said to be the reason why women who carry boys develop the pupps rash. This would make sense if only women carrying boys were affected by pupps. Because women who carry girls getthe pupps rash as well, this does not seem to be the true reason why pregnant women get the pupps rash. A reported 70% of the women who develop the pupps rash carry little boys.

The pupps rash starts on the abdomen of the pregnant mother and spreads to the rest of the body. The pupps rash spreads as a result of an allergic reaction to pupps. It has been reported that the pupps rash covers everything but the face, the sole of the feet, and the palm of the hands. As the pregnancy progresses, the pupps rash intensifies and gets worse.

Because pregnant women have to limit the kind of drugs that can be taken and the topical solutions that can be used, it is difficult to treat the pupps rash while pregnant. The same applies to postpartum mothers who are breast-feeding. Most treatments while pregnant only provide temporary relief. If a mother has delivered and is not breastfeeding, she may be able to take stronger drugs like steroids to get rid of the pupps rash.

While there is not a lot of information on the web about the pupps rash, there are blogs that post topics about the pupps rash. Pregnant women use these blogs to share their stories about pupps and seek advice from others who have suffered from the pupps rash. On these blogs, you can learn a lot about what treatments have worked well and which ones have not.  read more

    Treatments for the Pupps Rash

While there is no known cure for the pupps rash, there are numerous products on the market that are used to help relieve symptoms of the pupps rash. Those products range from topical solutions to oral treatments that can be found over the counter or prescribed by physicians. Because most women get the pupps rash during pregnancy, they are limited on the treatments they can use to treat the pupps rash.

Topical solutions that have been noted as great pupps rash relievers include anti-itch lotions, essential oils, oatmeal baths, as well as soaps that contain menthol. Sarna Lotion is one of the anti-itch lotions that appears to wear the crown for pupps rash suffers. It has been mentioned on numerous blogs with rave reviews. Gold Bond 10 extreme itch has also been mentioned as a great option. The essential oils that have been used include tea tree oil and lavender oil. While tea tree has greater reviews in regards to providing pupps relief, some have noted that lavender oil works as well.

While researching products to use I stumbled upon Pine Tar Soap. This product is talked about on just about every blog that mentions the pupps rash. Pine Tar Soap is said to be very soothing and just the relief you need before applying either Sarna Lotion or Gold Bond 10 extreme itch. You should feel some relief while using these products. Just note, there has been no mention of these products doing anything other than providing relief. There has been no mention of them curing the pupps rash.

Oral solutions that have been noted as pupps relievers include anti-histamines, herbal teas, herbal supplements, and even steroids. Any anti-histamine should provide the same level of relief according to what has been noted. In regards to herbal teas, Milk Thistle and Dandelion Root seem to be the Holy Grail of teas that have provided relief in some cases as well as aided in helping others get rid of the pupps rash. Dandelion Root can also be taken in a pill form.

The most popular treatment for the pupps rash amongst those that are desperate is steroids. While pregnant women are unable to take steroids, the intense irritation of the pupps rash causes some to request induction and steroids. It has been noted that some doctors have done that and others have not. Some pupps sufferers noted that steroids did not cure their pupps rash. I am one of those survivors.

This article is only intended to provide information about pupps treatments that have either provided pupps relief or helped to get rid of the pupps rash. You should speak with your physician before trying any of the products mentioned.  read more

    Shut the PUPPP UP!

How many times have you wanted to scream “SHUT THE PUPPP UP” on a daily bases? Clearly the intense irritation of PUPPP (aka pupps rash or pregnancy rash) is severely underrated. It makes you want to scream, “help me” to anyone who will listen. The only problem with that is, no one really knows how to fix it. Why on earth is something this annoying and painful so disregarded?

As a pupps survivor, I can relate to the pupps survivors and sufferers who say or have said, “I thought I was going to lose my mind.” While I am sure there are worse things to experience in life, it does not change the fact that the pupps rash is pretty horrible. Can you imagine feeling like you are itching down to your bones? If that does not scare you, imagine itching like that nonstop for weeks, even months. It makes you want to scream “SHUT THE PUPPP UP!”

The problem with shutting pupps up is the fact that it is very aggressive, intense, and angry. It’s going to be seen and heard. The longer you are acquainted with the pupps rash the more noise it makes. Yes, it gets worse. It’s so annoying that it can drive you to outbursts similar to those of tourette victims. It causes you to cry like a newborn baby. It can drive you straight into depression. To add insult to injury, it literally takes over your life.

Fortunately for pupps sufferers, I hear your cry. I am familiar with the loud outbursts and even the slight feeling of depression. It is a normal part of the process of going through pupps. Why does it have to linger so long? Why is there no cure for the pupps rash? Why should women be plagued with this nasty pupps rash during such a special time in their lives? These were the questions I asked and I am sure you have the same questions.

Since I have survived my battle with the pupps rash, I have made it my business to make it easier for other women. I would have loved to find something to help me fight the pupps rash head on. I hated wasting my time searching the web and seeing the same thing, other women desperate for an answer. For this reason, I wrote and published The PUPPP Cleanse – A pregnant woman’s guide on how to get rid of the pupps rash the natural way. I hope that is can provide some relief to those who stumble upon it. read more

For those suffering from the pupps rash, Grandpa’s Pine Tar Bar Soap is just what the doctor ordered. The soap provides relief from the intense, aggravating itch caused by the pupps rash. Grandpa’s Pine Tar Soap is very soothing and moisturizing. It leaves your skin feeling calm and soft. The relief is temporary and only last for about 30 minutes to an hour, but anyone who is suffering from the pupps rash will be more than happy to have any kind of relief. While the soap is soothing and takes away some of your agony, it is not a cure for the pupps rash.

Grandpa’s Pine Tar Soap is made of vegetable pine tar oil and has a woodsy, pine scent. The bar of soap is rather solid and will last for a while. I took a shower with it twice a day for almost a full month using only one bar. It is very dark brown or black in color.

I did not experience any side effects or issues while using Grandpa’s Pine Tar Soap. I started using it after I gave birth to my son. So I cannot tell you how using the soap while pregnant will make you feel; however, I have not found any mention of the soap being unsafe to use while pregnant. Just as a precautionary measure, pregnant women should consult their OBGYN before trying anything while pregnant.  read more

Signs That You May Have the Pupps Rash

The pupps rash is a pregnancy rash that some women get during the last trimester of pregnancy. The earliest signs/symptoms you will become aware of that elude that you may have the pupps rash is small itchy bumps. These bumps, if associated with the pupps rash, usually start on some area of the abdomen. At first glance the bumps (pupps rash) appear very tiny and are only noticeable because of the itchiness.

As time progresses and one becomes further along in pregnancy, the bumps spread and the itch begins to intensify. Before the pupps rash goes away, it usually gets worse. The pupps rash spreads sometimes all over the body. It covers everything but the face, the palm of the hands, and the sole of the feet. During this time, the pupps rash stops looking like clusters of tiny bumps and more like whelps. In addition, the skin begins to turn red in the areas covered by the pupps rash.

To date, I have not heard of any other early detection signs or symptoms for the pupps rash. I also have not found any evidence that early detection makes curing the pupps rash any faster or better. I have learned that there are many different treatments and there is no one size fits all regimen to cure the pupps rash. For those of you who think you may have the pupps rash, I pray you don’t. If you do, please see your doctor as soon as possible.  read more

Can the Pupps Rash Occur During Multiple Pregnancies?

The pupps rash has been known to occur during multiple pregnancies. This means that mothers who have the pupps rash during one pregnancy could get the pupps rash during other pregnancies as well; However, this is not always the case. Just because you have the pupps rash during one pregnancy does not guarantee that you will have the pupps rash during other pregnancies.

What determines whether you will get the pupps rash during multiple pregnancies has yet to be discovered. It too lies in the gray area around why pregnant women get the pupps rash in the first place. It could be due to extreme stretching of the abdomen during pregnancy. It could be due to the mother carrying a boy.

While both of the reasons listed above are among the most popular reasons for why pregnant women get the pupps rash, there is still no scientific proof that proves either is true. There is no known research that suggests either of the above is any more likely to be the reason than the other. 70% of the women who have had the pupps rash carried boys. There is still 30% who carried girls and nearly all pregnant women experience stretching of the abdomen. If stretching was the cause of the pupps rash, wouldn’t all pregnant women get the pupps rash? If carrying boys was the cause of the pupps rash, why are women carrying girls getting the pupps rash as well?  read more

Does the pupps rash cause permanent scaring?

While the pupps rash does cause major discomfort and can cover the entire body, pupps does not cause permanent scaring. The pupps rash is a cluster of red whelp like bumps that itch intensely. Having the pupps rash does not guarantee that you will have scars from the pupps rash itself. Scratching the pupps rash is what causes the most scaring and even those scars are not permanent.

The bumps from the pupps rash seems to disappear sooner than the redness caused by the pupps rash. The redness is more noticeable in the abdomen area of the body. It can last weeks after the pupps rash is gone. Once the bumps have cleared up, the itching should be gone and not cause anymore agony.

The best way to avoid scaring all together is by rubbing the rash as oppose to scratching it. However, I have not heard of anyone who has had the pupps rash and did not scratch at some point. The best advice I have for anyone who thinks she may have the pupps rash, is to focus on the marks after pupps is gone and focus on soothing and getting rid of the pupps rash while you have it.  read more

    Is the Pupps Rash Contagious?

The pupps rash is a pregnancy rash that I would not wish on my worst enemy. Having had the pupps rash only once, I experienced it long enough to know that I would never want to get pupps again. The pupps rash makes you feel like a different person. Pupps has the tendency to make you feel like you are losing your mind. I am aware of the symptoms of postpartum depression and really feel like the pupps rash was driving my right into the hands of it.

This list of symptoms that I am about to share with you is not all that I experienced while suffering from the pupps rash; however, it is the part of the pupps rash that is contagious. The pupps rash symptoms list includes restless days and nights, screaming, moaning, and whining, red eyes from lack of sleep, extreme scratching, and low a bank account from spending money on anything and everything I thought would provide some relief. Those of you that have had the pupps rash know that there is much more to the pupps rash, but those are the only things that I consider contagious. Everyone around me felt my pain, but my husband especially experienced everything on the list.

While the pupps rash is really NOT contagious. The pupps rash will have some kind of effect on the people around you. Because I only have two hands, I had to use my husbands two hands to scratch the areas of my body that I could not reach.  read more

One Remedy Fits All Pupps Rash Cure

There is no known one-remedy fits all cure for the pupps rash. There are comments and post all over the web on blogs and forums about remedies and solutions for the pupps rash. After reading those posts, you realize that the pupps remedies and solutions that exists are sometimes hit and miss; They work for some and actually helps get rid of the pupps rash but not for others. The pupps rash may stem from a common issue, deep stretch marks or hormone issues caused by the sex of the baby, but the individuals plagued with the pupps rash are completely different in terms of their health, eating habits, and other things that could be the cause for treatments working or not working.

With any illness we encounter in life the immune system is the first thing that we often times focus on strengthening to rid ourselves of the illness. The pupps rash shouldn't be treated any differently. While topical solutions ease the uncomfortable symptoms associated with the pupps rash, they do not cure the pupps rash. I understand that immediate relief from the pupps rash is desired, so I am not discrediting the need for the topical solutions as they are still a very important part of the healing process; however, healing begins on the inside.

To tackle the pupps rash head on, work on attacking it internally. This means for some that changing the diet may be a good idea. Work on strengthening your immune system. There are not many illnesses that linger once the body is in a healthy, clean state, including the pupps rash. This does not mean the journey will be easy, but it does not have to be a long process either. It means that you will have to be disciplined and determined to kick the pupps rash's butt.  read more
